Kim Kardashian-West can never be kept away from being in the news. This time she made mainstream headlines after using physical Bitcoin to bet in a poker game.
At the If Only Texas Hold’em Charity Poker event in Los Angeles, the reality TV star and model played a game of poker along with her mother and sisters.
The Bitcoin connection to this event become known when the star posted an image of the physical Bitcoin she used while placing bets on the poker table on her Instagram story page. The corresponding caption to the story read, “We moved onto Bitcoin!”
With a following of over 110 million on social media, this temporary Instagram story was bound to attract attention and receive wider coverage.
The beneficiary of the charity event is City of Hope, a not-for-profit cancer research and treatment institution.
Rare Use of Physical Bitcoin Currency
A cryptocurrency like Bitcoin is created and held in the digital form. There could be very few, if any, of the physical form of the currency. The physical Bitcoins or other currencies are made by design firms and sold and bought as souvenirs.
In this particular case, moments after Kardashian-West posted the Bitcoin image on her Instagram page, there was a tweet from Matthew Roszak with a photo of him gifting her with the Bitcoin himself.
Roszak would have been the right person for this, since he is very much involved in blockchain technology. The coin could have been the product of Kialara, a company that specializes in designing and selling different cryptocurrencies.
There is as no other system in place for the regular minting of cryptocurrency coins.
Kim Kardashian a Powerful Influence
The news that Kardashian-West casually endorses Bitcoin may have a significant influence on many fence-sitters out there who are still to make up their minds about making investments in Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency for that matter.
Kardashian-West is often described as one of the “most powerful influencers” in the world. Experts are able to make a positive connection between an endorsement by Kardashian-West and the impact in terms of the product or the concept finding acceptability in the market. The celebrity herself is worth around $350 million as per some estimates.
Besides Kim, her husband Kanye West has been running his own campaign in support of cryptocurrencies. He has been heard making comments in interviews clearly spelling his positive view of virtual currencies and indicating that the restrictions on them should be lifted.
